"Whoever is not lost will never discover new paths."

Joan Littlewood

Do you think you have stopped learning after leaving school? Lifelong learning is an asset which you can acquire all lifelong. Did you know that contrary to popular belief, research has shown that the human brain can regenerate and learn at any age? Discover how learning can help you improve your life!

Learning has never been so important!

Have you noticed that the world is changing at a rapid pace? Internet, new technologies and the global economy have built a knowledgeable society. In this new society, the work associated with the creation and use of knowledge is more valuable than the physical labor. Today, out of every three employees, there are two knowledge workers. This is double compared to the eighties, and this revolution is far from over!

From this perspective, learning and innovation are the key to success in different countries, culturally and economically in the twenty first century. And learning to learn is a quality that helps you move in all directions. You can learn in all areas, from culinary arts to astrophysics!

A project titled "Learning to Learn" is even supported by the European Union. Its purpose is to promote learning ability through the following dimensions:

  • Develop learning skills: problem solving, take notes, summarize, report, share with others, etc.
  • Encourage exploration, innovation, discovery, etc.
  • Become aware of how to learn your own way.

Strategies to learn more and more easily

You want to renew and build your life in your way while contributing to society? Here are some strategies to help you learn!

Pass the lack of confidence, pride and fear of the unknown. To learn, you must first admit that you can improve. Because it can be embarrassing to find yourself face to face with what you know. If you learn with other people, do not be afraid to ask questions: in addition to increasing your understanding, you will help all those who posed the same question, but dared not ask!

Feed your motivation. To learn, you must have the determination to move forward, especially in difficult times. If you know the reasons behind your learning (develop new skills, improve yourself etc.), you will value your learning more. It will be much easier to motivate yourself. That's how you cross the toughest stages or the most boring part of your learning.

One step at a time. While it is important to want to learn, do not expect a miracle or a revolution. Learning is like life: We cannot know all the steps beforehand to make real progress. If you persevere, you will advance slowly, but surely!

Cultivate your critical thinking skills. Did you know that you are often right to be wrong? Nothing is more right to unlearn than the fear of being wrong. When you exercise your critical thinking, you give yourself the opportunity to correct false beliefs and thus refine your learning. Do not just rely on others while you form an opinion. Check several sources and nuances before drawing your conclusions.

Remain open to innovation. Sometimes, just a small spark to ignite the powder. In other words, the discovery of a little thing can help you see your life or knowledge in a new light. It is the flash of genius – a eureka moment! If you keep your mind open, you do not miss the opportunity to create what you learn.

Help those you love to learn. Learning is not the thing student are doing in school. They have to work hard and continue their learning all life long. If you have children, one of the most beautiful gift you can give them is to promote learning. For example, you can buy your child a student desk and see with him every evening what homework he has to do and help him to get confidence.

Lifelong Learning

Did you know that it is also very advantageous to learn throughout life in order to maintain your mental health? A new learning can prevent losses in the use of basic faculties such as language or numeracy. The brain needs to be active to stay young and develop new connections. The good news? It's not just traditional learning that delivers results. Social activities, leisure, travel, reading and even entertainment can help keep our intellectual abilities.

Here are some of the fundamental aspects related to learning:

  • Experiences and beliefs.
  • Processes and strategies used for learning.
  • The memory capacity.
  • The degree of concentration.
  • Motivation and desire to learn.
  • The appropriation of new knowledge through creativity.
